Please tell us a little about yourself.
I’m an interior decorator with a passion for paint color and for teaching both pros and novices how to decorate. I teach certification courses in Psychological Staging (also the name of my book), which is based on my proprietary system for staging homes to sell.
Why did you decide to start a blog? What do you enjoy about blogging?
I started blogging as a way to organize my ideas and decorating advice in 2009. The blog grew and my business expanded like crazy. Now along with blogging, I have created various video series that very specifically teach people to choose paint colors, arrange furniture and art, and even style and accessorize everything from bookcases to bedscapes. I don’t particularly enjoy the writing aspect of blogging, but I love sharing my ideas with readers who are eager to learn how to make their house a home!
How would you describe your design style?
I live in a period home, built in 1940, and I’m totally passionate about historic preservation and restoration. So personally, I’m obsessed with all things nostalgic and lean towards a quirky, storybook kind of vibe. My house is full of unusual collections and bright, fun colors. Professionally, my goal is to help my clients achieve their own specific style at a level they simply couldn’t have achieved on their own. It’s about them, not me!
Where do you find most of your inspiration?
Touring homes – designer showcase homes, historic homes, open houses. I even go to estate sales just to be able to tour specific homes! My favorites are time capsule homes – where all the furnishings and decor are from a very specific era. I also read tons of design-related books and magazines to inspire and motivate me to try new things.
Tell us about a recent project you’re proud of.
I recently completed a total redesign for a client that was ready for a fresh, clean palette after living with dark colors for years. I love transforming homes with paint – the right colors are key to getting a look you truly love!
