Here at Floor Coverings International West County, MO, we care about offering you the natural and sustainable flooring choices you want for your Chesterfield home. However, making your home environmentally friendly goes beyond just flooring. That’s why we’re supporting Arhaus and American Forests’ mission by sharing a few simple tips for going green in all areas of your home!
As you can see from the infographic below, one of our own top environmental tips pertains to volatile organic compounds, or VOCs, which can be found in some synthetic flooring materials. VOCs can range in severity, but long exposure to certain kinds can have some serious negative consequences on our health, so stay on the lookout.
The graphic also includes a handful of extra tips that are sure to make your home feel a little bit greener. For those looking to go a step further, here are three more of our favorite eco-friendly tips!
- When possible, choose sustainable or recycled construction materials for your home. Examples include bamboo, cork, and linoleum flooring, reclaimed wood cabinets, countertops made from recycled glass, and many more. When it comes to furniture, look for pieces made from responsibly sourced material—much of Arhaus’ living room collection is crafted using wood certified by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative.
- Reduce your energy consumption (and your utility bills) by installing energy-efficient windows and appliances, low-flow shower heads, and insulating carpets.
- Use natural cleaners around your home as much as you can. You can either look for natural cleaning brands at the grocery store, or make your own cleaners at home using everyday ingredients like baking soda and vinegar.
